The eau de parfum is inspired by the perfume with which it shares its floral and aldehyde signature.

In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel asked Ernest Beaux to create "a rare and powerful women's perfume that smells like a woman." The perfumer proposes a visionary composition that calls for an unprecedented use of aldehydes. Mademoiselle approves version number 5 of the fragrance and decides to keep this number as a simple name. For this new product, he chose a radical bottle, adorned with a white label and a faceted cabochon. In 1986, Jacques Polge, CHANEL perfumer since 1978, reinterpreted his predecessor's olfactory division to present a more expansive version of N°5: the eau de parfum.
